The firm was founded in 1860 by Henry Escritt who in 1900 formed a partnership with Cecil Barrell. In the same year, G W Golding commenced practicing in the town and established the firm of Golding. Escritt & Barrell and Golding practiced independently for some 105 years before merging in 2006.
